Norman Leroy Sargent, 96 of Fritch went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, May 20, 2022, in Fritch. Graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday, May 23, 2022, at Stinnett Cemetery. Burial is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger. There will be a family and friends visitation on Sunday, May 22, 2022 at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.

Leroy was born March 8, 1926, in Beggs, OK to Lugusta and Lola May Sargent. He was one of ten children. Leroy attended Stinnett High School until he left school to join the Navy at the age of 17. He spent most of his Navy career stationed on the island of Saipan in the Pacific Theater operating a ship to shore boat. After leaving the Navy, Leroy obtained his GED and went to work for Phillips 66 in Dumas. He then met Melba Tipton and married her on November 21, 1948. Leroy and Melba had three children, Connie Dilynn, Norman Lynn and Nathan Glen.

He enjoyed playing fast pitch softball and coached Golden Gloves Boxing in Dumas and later in Stinnett after transferring to the Borger office of Phillips 66.

After moving to Stinnett in 1962, he was active in First Baptist Church of Stinnett where he was Sunday School Superintendent for several years. Leroy was an active member of his church where he lived, and lastly First Southern Baptist Church in Fritch until he was no longer able to attend services.

In 1970, Leroy moved to Casper, Wyoming for 17 years and then retired from Phillips and moved to Fritch.

Leroy was predeceased in death by his wife, Melba; parents; five brothers Jack, Winfred, Preston, Dallas and Tony; three sisters Maudine, Marcella and Audra and grandsons, Cole Sargent and Chad Foster.

Leroy is survived by his children, Connie Short and husband Neal, Norman Sargent and wife Lisa and Nathan Sargent and wife Donna. Grandchildren Jerrod Short, Yancey Short and wife Jami, Brandon Sargent and wife Kayla, Mickey Foster and wife Lulu, Misty Coates and husband Brian, Dusty Sargent and wife Shree and Granddaughter-in-law, Kristen Foster. Fifteen great grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Sister Drucella Hamrick of Phoenix, AZ. Numerous nieces and nephews along with his “special” caregiver, Silvia Hernandez.
