Maggie Johnson

October 29, 1934 — September 12, 2022

Amarillo

Maggie Bernice Johnson of Borger earned her mansion, robe, and crown as she peacefully left us on September 12, 2022, at the age of 87.

She was born to the late Ollie and Lee Bowie on October 29, 1934, in “Borger, Texas”.  She lived in Marshall, Texas and Lawton, Oklahoma before moving to Borger with her family.  She married the love of her life, the late John Johnson in Borger.  Along with her parents and husband, preceding her in death were her daughter Juanita Joyce Johnson, her son Jonathan Maurice Johnson Sr. and her siblings, Verdell, Eddie Mae, Ernest, Vera, William, Vernell, Larry, Jimmy, Mattie, Harry, and Erma.  Those left to cherish her memory are her children William Johnson & wife Ann, John Johnson and wife Jackie, and Faye Johnson. She is also survived by grandchildren: LaDonna Johnson, Jonathan Johnson Jr., Andrew Johnson, Stephanie Johnson, Alicia Johnson, Angie Johnson, Jaylyn Johnson and Jonathan Johnson.  She also had 17 great grandchildren, 5 great great-grandchildren and she was able to meet them all.

Maggie had a deep love for all of her children and a special bond with each of her grandchildren.  While she raised a few of them, not a summer went by that the others weren’t able to spend a significant amount of time at “Granny’s house.”

As the matriarch of her family, she was a devout Christian and shared that faith with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  All knew that you were going to church EVERY Sunday and Wednesday.  Maggie loved to cook for her family. They knew they could expect her famous fried chicken every Sunday after church.   She loved sports, specifically, basketball.  Those that really knew her, know that she not only loved to watch but she was quite the basketball player as well.

To honor this wonderful woman’s memory, the family is holding a celebration of her life on September 24, 2022, at Johnson Park Church of Christ, 1100 Bulldog Blvd., Borger, TX at 10 A.M. They invite anyone who knew her to attend and remember her fabulous life.
