Kathryn (Renick) Phillips

August 24, 1957 — December 27, 2021

Borger

Kathryn Leslie (Renick) Phillips lost her valiant three-year battle with lung cancer at her home in Borger on 27 December 2021.

Kathryn was born in Borger to Chuck and Hester Renick on 24 August 1957, the second of three children. Kathryn graduated from Borger High School and lived in Borger most of her life. She went to work as a retail clerk in a dress shop while still in school and made it her career. She worked in various retail positions, including managing several different stores over the years in Borger and Pampa.

Kathryn was an avid outdoorswoman who hunted and fly-fished all over the southwestern United States with her husband Steve Phillips, who preceded her in death in 2009. She was also a passionate birdwatcher with a large library of reference books on the subject. She was very knowledgeable about a wide variety of birds and could often identify one of the many local species by sight alone, unaided by binoculars.

She was an amateur artist, able to sketch and render accurately without any formal training. She rendered objects and vistas that caught her eye in pencil, charcoal and watercolor. She decorated her yard with flowers and crafted sculptural objects from found materials which she displayed in her garden.

She was also a budding photographer, who observed the natural world she loved so much and took home photos of her time in the wild. She had a natural eye for composition and captured many interesting scenes with her lens that she later printed and displayed in her home.

She is survived by her mother, Hester Renick of Borger, her brother Clay and his wife Lisa of Borger, Clay’s children and Lisa’s step-children, Warren and his wife Elizabeth and their children Jackson and Reagan of Highland Village, Texas, Lesley Hayward and her husband Brian and their child Hudson of Lewisville, Texas, her brother Brad and his wife Susan of Borger, their son Ryan and his wife Saylee and their daughter Kate of Spearman.

It was her wish to be cremated with no funeral service. Kathryn will be missed. May she find the peace that has eluded her for the past three years.
