Steve grew up in Riverton, Kansas where he proudly attended Riverton High School as a Riverton Ram. He was active in athletics and choir, with basketball being his true passion. After high school, he attended Coffeyville Community College in Coffeyville, Kansas where he met the love of his life, Diane. The two lovebirds married on June 8, 1973.
In 1975, Steve began his career with the Phillips 66 Refinery in Borger, Texas. He and Diane moved to Phillips, Texas, and then settled in Fritch in 1982, where they built a life centered on faith, family, and hard work. Steve dedicated 43 years to Phillips 66 and retired in January of 2018.
A true jack of all trades, Steve loved working with his hands and could fix just about anything. If something needed repairing, he was the man everyone called. He was a man of few words, but when he spoke, his words carried meaning. He was known for his strong, unmatched work ethic, his love of a good “dad joke”,and above all, his fierce love for his family. His faith in God was evident to all who knew him and he touched more lives than he ever realized.
Steve will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A memorial service will take place Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11:00am at Celebration Family Church in Fritch. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the American Diabetes Association.
