Richard Charles Brewster, 90, of Borger passed away on September 30, 2025, in Borger. No services are scheduled. Cremation is under the direction of Minton Chatwell funeral Directors of Borger.
Richard was born May 22, 1935, to Janet Lucille (DeRoos) Brewster and Lewis Lavonne Brewster in Sioux City, Iowa. After he was born, his mother said she was tired and wanted to go to sleep. But the doctor said, not yet, Mrs. Brewster, we have one more. It was a surprise to his mom and the doctor. About five minutes later, his twin brother, Robert, was born. They joined older siblings Margene and Bill. They were followed by their siblings, John, Pam, Lew, Michael, Bonnie, Joey, Daniel, Donna, Terri, Tommy, and Lanny. Fifteen kids meant they had their own baseball and basketball teams. His mom was an excellent and frugal cook. He said she could feed them all on one pound of hamburger.
He remembers crowding around the radio listening to President Roosevelt declaring war on December 7, 1941. Toward the end of the war, his dad was drafted into the army. A soldier’s pay was based on the number of dependents at home, so was making more as a private than some officers.
They moved to El Paso during his senior year, where he graduated from El Paso High. During his senior year, he worked for Borden’s Milk and Ice Cream Company. He played the steel guitar in a band. He then moved to Anaheim, California and worked for Bastian Cherry Bottled Water Company. He carried and delivered five-gallon glass bottles all over the city. No need to go to the gym! He then got a job as a custodian at Ambassador College, which was a part of the Worldwide Church of G. he advanced to lead man, supervisor, and finally department manager.
Shortly after beginning work at Ambassador College, he met Judy Williams. They married on May 5, 1968, in Pasadena, where they lived most of their lives. They attended the Worldwide Church of God. He until it transitioned to Grace Communion International. They were married almost 54 years. The word team comes to mind when I think of them. They truly loved and supported each other. His wife passed on April 18, 2022, from colon cancer. He was always there for her. The hospice aides said they had never seen anyone take such good care of a loved one.
He was dad to Lisa Ann, born in 1969, and Derk Allen, born in 1972. He was the kind of dad who would work all day (a great deal of his work was manual labor) and then come home and play with us kids. If you knew him, he would have given you some health tips. He was always studying and learning about the best ways to live healthier. My brother and I have been guinea pigs for many health trials! You could call him in the middle of the night for help. All we had to do was watch him to see what being a good human was about.
He brought the same love and attention to his grandchildren, Aidan and Chloe Jones, and Nick Brewster. They loved him dearly because he had as much fun as they did. He always had a twinkle in his eye, ready for the next adventure. He looked for the good in others and in life.
