Peggy Inez Murray

Peggy Inez Murray, 84, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Saturday August 8th, 2026. She was a wife, sister, mother, Nana, Great Nana, and friend that will be greatly missed.

Peggy was born on January 19,1942 in Detroit Texas to Leslie Bartlett Caffee and Mamie Lorene Jewett Caffee. She attended Panhandle High School and graduated in 1960. She was elected Most Beautiful in her class, a characteristic that she maintained inside & out. Peggy's careers included being a hairdresser, a caregiver at Saint Anne's nursing home in Panhandle and Palo Duro nursing home and Claude. Her favorite career was that of being a farmer's wife.

Peggy married Bill Murray Sr., and together they shared 34 beautiful years. She loved life on the farm and was always willing to help wherever she was needed—driving the grain truck during harvest, chasing parts, taking meals to the field, working cattle, or pitching in with any task that needed to be done.

Bill and Peggy spent most of their winters together in South Texas, where they enjoyed fishing, hosting large cookouts with the friends they made over the years, and making frequent trips across the border. They would occasionally enjoy a margarita, dance their little jig, and always seemed to find wonderfully noisy toys to bring back for the grandkids.

Peggy enjoyed cooking, dancing, and spending time with her family. After Bill passed away, she looked forward to monthly luncheons with her friends in the Floozies group, as well as playing cards and dominoes with close friends in the Brookdale community where she resided.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bill Murray Sr. and a brother, John Raymond Caffee (JR). Those left to cherish her memories are her daughters, LaDonna Adkins and husband Kelly of Canyon, Janet Guthrie and husband Lynn of Canadian. Grandchildren; Annie Welch and husband Garrett of Lubbock, Nicole Speer and husband Brady of Canadian, Destry Guthrie of Canadian, and Vanessa Luster and husband Colton of Wildorado. Her great grandchildren include; Raelynn, Oliver, and Waylon Spear, Ava and Cooper Luster, and Baby Welch, due in October. Her brother, Roy, Julian Caffee and wife Darlene of Waxahachie, numerous nieces and nephews, and a slew of cousins that she had a very close relationship with. Extended family members include Bill Murray Jr and wife Kathy of Panhandle & Brenda Smith and husband Jim of Amarillo, and many other Murray family members that she remained close to after Bill's death.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials to be made to the Carson County Square House Museum or the Garretson Center in Panhandle, Texas. 

Funeral services will he held at 10 am Friday, August 14, 2026, at the Conway Community Church.  Burial will follow in Panhandle Cemetery.
