Opal Morgan

September 10, 1930 — October 20, 2022

Rockwall, TX

Opal Mae Morgan (“nee” Vinson), 92, went to meet our Lord on Thursday, October 20, 2022.  Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, October 26th at Minton Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Burwash, of, Calvary Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.  A visitation will be from 5pm to 7pm at the funeral home on Tuesday October 25th.

Opal was born in Enid, OK on September 10, 1930.  After graduating high school, she stayed in Enid and became a legal secretary for a large law firm.  During her 10-year career with the law firm, she met and married the love of her life, James W. “Bill” Morgan, in 1956 and became a military wife.  She had a daughter, LaDonna, in 1958 and devoted her life to caring for, and supporting, her family.  She was able to live places like France, Guam, and all over the United States from Bangor, Maine to Shreveport, Louisiana.  She took care of LaDonna and supported Bill during his military career that included the Korean and Vietnam wars.  Following her husband’s retirement, they built a home in Fritch, Texas.  After 43 years in Fritch, she moved to The Woodlands, Texas with her husband to be closer to their daughter, LaDonna, because of health issues.  They later moved to The Conservatory, independent living community, where they resided for 3 years before Bill passed away.  They had been married to each other for almost 60 years.

Opal was a devoted wife, mother, grandmommy and great grandmommy, and was dearly loved by many.  She was always there for anyone that needed help.  She was also very loving, kind, and gentle; and always had a smile on her face, while being the rock of her family.  Opal dearly loved her only child and best friend, LaDonna, and considered Greg, her husband, as a son.  She cherished her grandchildren, Morgan and Marc, and loved the week or two every summer they would come to visit.  She was so happy when Marc married Amy, and she inherited not only another granddaughter, but also a 5-year-old great grandson, Lincoln, to love.  Opal was very proud of her entire family and will be deeply missed.

Opal leaves behind her beloved daughter, LaDonna McIlwain and husband Greg McIlwain of Rockwall, Texas; granddaughter, Morgan McIlwain of Raleigh, North Carolina; grandson, Marc McIlwain, wife Amy McIlwain, and son Lincoln of Midland, Texas; sister-in-law, Anna Clark; as well as nieces and nephews.

Opal is preceded in death by her loving husband James W. “Bill” Morgan, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.  She will be greatly missed.
