Michael Don Braden

July 30, 1960 — July 26, 2025

Borger

Michael Don Braden, 64, of Borger, Texas, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on July 26, 2025, surrounded by his family.

Born on July 30, 1960, in Amarillo to Don and Fran Braden, Mike grew up with a deep love for art, music, and making others smile. A 1978 graduate of Borger High School, he was an active member of the choir and drama department, and an exceptionally talented art student. He continued to pursue his artistic passions at Texas Tech University before returning to Borger, where his greatest masterpiece began in the life he built with Joy Eberting, whom he married in August of 1982.

Mike was the definition of a family man. His greatest happiness came from the life he built with his wife, the family they raised together, and the grandchildren who lit up his world. Whether he was painting a beautiful canvas, cracking a joke, or hosting a competitive game of Farkle, he was most at home with the people he loved. His laughter was infectious, and his presence brought that energy to every family gathering.

Mike dedicated much of his career to public service and safety. He worked for many years with SPS/Xcel Energy, where he was a skilled lineman and safety trainer. Most recently, he served at Pantex as a safety trainer, electrical supervisor, and manager—roles in which he was deeply respected for his commitment to excellence and unwavering care for the people around him. He was known by colleagues not only for his sharp technical mind but also for his jokes and his caring nature.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Donald Eugene Braden. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Joy Braden; daughter Sabrina Hawthorne and husband Mark; son Colt Braden and wife Maggie; and son Chase Braden and wife Jasmine. He also leaves behind his loving mother, Fran Braden; brother Steve Braden and wife Cindy; sister Stacie Martindale and husband Dan; and a host of extended family, friends, and coworkers who will miss his joy-filled spirit dearly.

Mike’s greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow and thrive. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, each of whom he adored with all his heart: Karlei Hawthorne, Kindra Hawthorne, Cade Braden, Cooper Braden, Charlie Braden, Christian Braden, Aurora Braden, Crew Braden, and Tiana Braden. He loved nothing more than being their “Pops”.

His legacy lives on through every brushstroke on canvas, and through the laughter, creativity and strength of his family.
