Merl Richmond

Merl Eugene "Gene" Richmond, 84, died Friday, February 4, 2022 in Borger.  Graveside service with Military Rites will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday at Highland Park Cemetery with Mr. Jeremy Vass, Church of Christ at Borger officiating.  Services are under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Gene was born June 24, 1937 in Erick, Oklahoma to Merl Richmond and Loretta Bess Richmond.  He married Barbara Wilson June 21, 1957 in Borger.  Gene proudly served his country in the U. S. Army and the Army National Guard for twenty-five years and retired as a Staff Sargent.  He worked as an Insurance Adjuster for Safeco before retiring.  He was a 1956 graduate of Borger High School and loved music as a vocalist for the Whirlwinds.  Gene was a founding member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity while he attended West Texas State University, he was also a member of the Borger Jaycees, the Lion's Club, the Kiwanis Club and the Toastmasters.  He also loved hunting, fishing and Football, playing for the Bulldogs while he was in high school.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jolene, his stepmom Dorris Richmond and his stepdad Claude Morrison.

Gene is survived by his wife of sixty-four years Barbara, his son Kreg Richmond of Seattle, WA, his three brothers Elvin Richmond of Waldron, AR, Gary Richmond of Waldron , AR and Marcus Richmond of , Harvey, AR.
