Maxine McDowell Parkhurst, 99, passed away on Thursday, October 30, 2025, in Amarillo, Texas, after a long, active life.
Born on May 4, 1926, in Mustang, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of James and Rosie McDowell.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents, her 11 siblings: Anna McDowell Wolf, Edith McDowell Dickson, Odessa McDowell Koelsch, Reuben McDowell, Daisy McDowell Jantz, Zelma McDowell Melton, Winona McDowell Wein, Vertie Mae McDowell Wood, Marcella McDowell Akin, James Earl McDowell, Grover McDowell; her two husbands Thomas E. Pearson and George Parkhurst; her son Ronald E. Pearson.
She is survived by one granddaughter, Elizabeth Pearson, and various nieces and nephews.
Maxine worked 34 years for the Santa Fe Railroad in Amarillo and Borger, Texas. She thoroughly enjoyed her job there.Her favorite activity beginning in 1960, was bowling. Maxine had a high sanctioned game of 256 for which she received the WIBC Century Award. She had the high handicap game for the 1968-1969 Sundowners League and in the 1970-71 season, she had the high scratch game. She was still bowling into her early 90’s. Maxine was active in a number of other activities, including: Fishing and camping, Red Hat Society, Rebekah Lodge and Dancing. Maxine also enjoyed attending Crossroads Country Church in Amarillo, Texas.
Her funeral service will be held at the Minton Memorial Chapel in Borger, Texas, on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 2:00 pm with Pastor Bob Miller of the Crossroads Country Church officiating. Burial will follow at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
