Obituary

Marilyn Ray Taylor, 91 of Amarillo passed away on Monday, October 5, 2026, surrounded by family.

Graveside services will be 11:00 am Thursday, October 8, 2026, at Westlawn Memorial Park. Burial is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Marilyn was born December 2, 1934, in Clarendon, Texas to Raymond and Edna (Blanks) Tidwell. She lived a wonderful life. Marilyn was raised in the Spring Creek Community east of Borger for ten years, moving later to Borger. In Borger, she met her beloved husband Dearil R. Taylor. They were married on July 4, 1953, and had 65 glorious years together. Dearil passed away on March 21, 2018.

She graduated from Borger High School, attended Amarillo College and Wayland Baptist University in Plainview. Her first job was at Western Auto in Borger selling Christmas toys at the age of 15. Through the years, she worked at Gunn Bros in the gift department. She also worked as a bookkeeper for different companies. Marilyn was a dispatcher for various oil companies. She enjoyed having a business selling gifts and antiques.

In her life there was some sadness but much happiness. She loved being with family. She went on numerous vacations with Ralph “Buzzy” and Cora Osborne. She also liked doing crafts and going antiquing.

She is preceded in death by husband, Dearil; mother, Edna Sargent; stepfather, Jake Sargent; sister, Billie Jean Hill; brother, Jerry Tidwell; daughter, Sandra Mize; grandson, Travis Mize; friends, Buzzy Osborne, Maurice Sicso Smith; grandparents, J. G. and Willie Blanks.

Surviving is her son, Tim Taylor and wife Jo Beth of Amarillo; brothers, David Sargent of Dallas, Gregg Sargent of Houston; grandchildren, Jason, Cory, Christie, Leanna; great grandchildren, Taryn, Tristan, Tim, Alexis, Lila, Keira; great-great grandchildren, Camden, Wrynlee, Rhylyn; very good friend, Cora Osborne; and her beloved dog, Butter Cup.
