Kay grew up in Cactus, Texas attending Cactus Elementary School. She then attended Junior High and High School in Dumas, Texas, graduating in 1968. Kay attended Amarillo College and graduated from Northwest Texas Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She grew up with her future husband Ronald Scott Robins and his siblings in Cactus.

She and Ron were married December 10, 1971, at the First Christian Church in Dumas. She had two children, Waylon Scott and Timothy Wade. Her boys married two fine Christian women- Waylon married Candle Cox and Tim married Kerry Keim. Kay was a life-long member of Fritch Church of Christ after being baptized there in 1979. She worked in almost every nursing setting as an RN and was a joyful asset everywhere she worked. She was a good Christian example to her family (especially her boys) and is now wholly restored in the arms of her savior Jesus.
