John Baron “Barry” Broadaway, 68, passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022, in Amarillo. A Celebration of His Life will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Minton Memorial Chapel with Pastor Linda Wimberly of First United Methodist Church of Fritch officiating. Cremation was under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Barry was born March 21, 1953 in Amarillo, the son of John Thomas and Dorothy Vivian Broadaway. He grew up in Panhandle graduating from Panhandle High School in 1971. He then attended West Texas State University, earning a BS degree in Plant Science.
Throughout his life his careers ranged from farming, to real estate and insurance, and truck-driving to correctional officer. He loved his wife Sue Ann, his kids and his dogs. He was happiest on his motorcycle or on the water. Family gatherings were times he looked forward to, and he would always be the first one up making sure the meal preparations were on course. Any meal he made for his family and friends was made with love and enjoyed by all.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sue Ann; his mother Dorothy of Amarillo; his sisters Linda Purvines and her husband Bill of Panhandle and Dianne Padgett of Houston; his children Matt Broadaway and his wife Diana of Austin, Cara Yarborough and her husband Travis of Round Rock, Wyatt Broadaway and his partner Jenna of Eastsound, Washington, Scott Hammack and his wife Gina of Pampa, and Ryan Hammack and his wife Samantha of Fritch; his grandkids Dakota, Carson, Byran (Kenda), Tyler, Craig, Jaden, Jordan, Ashley, McKinnze, Reese, Max, Scarlett, Blake and Wyatt and his four great-grandchildren.
