Borger native Joetta Taylor passed away from natural causes on October 12, 2025. She was 93. Joetta was born May 17, 1932 in Amherst, TX to Hubert Welch Taylor and Allie Mae Taylor.
A spirited, independent, and hard-working woman, Joetta built a lasting legacy in Borger through her many small businesses over the years, including The Top Hat, The Oasis, The Windmill, The Pump, and The Rendezvous Room in the Borger Hotel. She was an active member of the St. Andrew’s Methodist Church and found great joy in her work and the community she helped shape.
Joetta also cherished spending time at her cabin in Ruidoso, New Mexico, where she loved dancing at the Win, Place & Show and taking her grandchildren to the small shops and parks across town. She was known for her famous “Texas Grazin’” snack mix, which she shared generously with family and friends, and for making quilts for loved ones. She loved to travel and cook for her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Glenda Garrard and her brother David Taylor.
She is survived by her sons, Charlie Ward and wife Cherie of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Tim Ward and wife Jerry of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren Dylan, Stephen, Robbie, Bo, and Tonya; great-grandchildren Andi, Cody, and Shianne; and great-great-grandchildren Brilee, Makenna, Sofia, Harper, Huxley, Milo, and Braxton.
Visitation will be held Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Minton-Chatwell Funeral Home in Borger, Texas. A graveside service will follow Friday at 11 a.m. at Westlawn Memorial Park in Borger with her pastor Dr. Scott Neel officiating.
The family requests donations to the Harrington Cancer Center in Amarillo.
