Janie Rook

Mary Jane “Janie” Rook, 84, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2025.

A celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, in the Minton Memorial Chapel with Mr. Robert Bradley officiating. Janie will lie in state from 8 am to 8 pm on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Janie was born September 26, 1940, in Boswell, Oklahoma to James T. Gifford and Millie Garner Gifford. After 34+ years of service, Janie retired from Walmart. She was a professional collector of various treasures, with QVC being her favorite shopping place. Janie was a devout ELVIS fan, enjoyed baking, watching the Dallas Cowboys and recently began to respect the game of golf. She played the armchair quarterback in the Borger News Herald and won several times.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Millie Gifford; husband, OJ Rook; brothers, Eugene Gifford, Billy Ray Gifford, Gary Don Gifford, and Roy Lee Gifford.

Survivors include her son, Daryl Blassingame; daughters, Renea Lawson, Kristi Gossett and husband Qlo; grandchildren, Jennifer Anderson and husband Jared, Jessika Sanders and husband Johnny, Darrah Blassingame, Derrick Dixon and wife Kiley, Andrea Lawson, Arrika Mitchell and husband Tyler, Jaymes Hebard and wife Lauren, Rylee Killgo and husband Collin, Makayla Gossett, Quentin Gossett, Clementine Gossett, Keelin Gossett; great grandchildren, Maecee, Jacob, Kyler, Elise, Cooper, Cade, Braylon, James, Mason, Ryan, Atlas, Haze, Liam; brother, Terry Gifford and wife Geneva; sisters-in-law, Helen Gifford, Clara Gifford; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of extended family.
