Herman Joseph Koetting, 80, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2023 in his home with his family by his side. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4 at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Panhandle, Texas. Cremation is under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Herman was born January 2, 1943, in Groom, Texas to Henry and Sybilla Koetting. He graduated from Groom High School and then West Texas State University with a degree in Marketing in 1966. He married Terri Thomas on August 20, 1966 in Crowell, Texas. Herman and Terri moved to Panhandle, Texas in 1968 where he worked in the grain business as the General Manager for HJ Hughes Grain Elevator and Robinson Grain Company for over 30 years. Herman served on many boards including: Panhandle ISD School Board, Texas Grain & Feed Association, Panhandle Grain & Feed Association, Panhandle Country Club and the Panhandle Panther Booster Club. Herman enjoyed playing golf (proudly making 4 holes in one in his lifetime), fishing, watching and keeping up with his grandkids’ activities, watching the Panhandle Panthers and Canadian Wildcats, talking with his friends and telling a good joke.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Marvin, Gene, Leonard and James. Herman is survived by his wife, Terri of the home; his son, Chris Koetting and wife Rosemary of Canadian, Texas; his daughter, Lesley Gershmel and husband Gard of Cove, Texas; and grandchildren Lauren Koetting, Bill Koetting, Jack Koetting, Landon Gershmel and Jai Gershmel; sister Caroline Longest of Amarillo, Texas and brother John Koetting of Groom, Texas as well as many nieces and nephews.
