Frances Jolene Schmidt

Frances Jolene "Jo" Schmidt, 81, passed peacefully at home on November 2, 2026, following a courageous lengthy battle with cancer. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, faith, compassion and devotion. As a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, her heart was always bigger than her circumstances and her love extended to everyone in her radius.

Born and raised in Dodge City, KS to her Father Frances George Robbins and Mother Jennie Lois Miller-Robbins until 1966 when she married the love of her life, Delmar Ray Schmidt, with whom she celebrated 60 beautiful years of marriage. They then moved to Garden City, Kansas to begin their life together.

That’s where she became known as everyone's biggest cheerleader. She was a spirited, hardworking "go-getter" who never hesitated to lend a helping hand or offer encouragement. Her compassion shone through with 25 years of service as a paraprofessional in the Garden City USD 457 School District, she was dedicated to the ESL program, and she volunteered with Birthright in GCK, she also shined in her efforts alongside Delmar transporting children in the foster care system. In 2018 they moved to Fritch, TX to be closer to their children/families.

She enjoyed reading, traveling, concert going, spending time with loved ones, taking care of Delmar, family and friends. She loved cheering Dad on at casinos; he loves the slots🙂.

Guided by her faith, Jo dedicated her life to serving others and making those around her feel loved. A verse that she lived by was Isiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not be faint.”

Jo is survived by her beloved husband, Delmar Ray Schmidt; her children, Orlynna Jo Schmidt-Morris (Frank Morris), Julie Ann Bracken (MaryAnn Bracken), and Tonya Raye Schmidt-Pense (Roger Pense); her grandchildren, Ashley "Blaine" Cloud, Danielle Nicole Pense (Eric McNamara), Dylan Blake Pense (AJ Barnes-Pense), Jackson James Hunter, and Kaylee Dawn Pense-Bland (Christopher Bland); and her great-grandchildren, Cason Jay Bailey, Blake Wyatt Bailey, Natalia Bianca Bailey, and Waylon Ray Pense. Her siblings, Gayle Clay, Sheryl Davis, Karyl Laney, (John Laney) Rick Robbins, Wylie Robbins (Lorie Robbins) and many wonderful Nieces and Nephews.

She was preceded in death by her Parents and her siblings, Avis Murphy, Barbara Robbins, and Randy Robbins.

Jo's greatest joy was her family, and her love will live on through the generations she leaves behind. She will be remembered for her unwavering encouragement, generous heart, and the countless lives she touched.

Sixty years of marriage. Generations of family. A lifetime of love.
