Esther Marlene Scherer

Esther Marlene Scherer, affectionately known as Marlene, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in her beloved hometown of Borger, Texas, where she was born on September 14, 1956. A dedicated "Lady of the Home," Marlene exemplified the spirit of love and support to her family and friends throughout her life.

Marlene was the cherished daughter of Clyde Wayne Back and Shirley Esther Council Back, who have preceded her in death. Her legacy is continued through her adoring family. She is survived by her husband, Michael Scherer, with whom she shared the joy of marriage for over 40 years, having tied the knot on September 13, 1985. Marlene was a devoted mother to her daughter Jennifer Matusiak and her husband Scott of Borger, and her son David Scherer and his wife Kellie of Stinnett. Also surviving her are her brothers, Darrol Back and wife Charlotte from Springfield, Missouri, and Earnest Back and wife Sheryl from Floydada, Texas along with seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

A woman of many interests, Marlene took great pleasure in cooking and relishing the memories captured in photographs of her grandchildren. Her life on the farm was a source of pride, where she spent many cherished hours raising cattle and enjoying the simplicity and beauty of country living. Marlene held a guiding philosophy: always be honest and humble.

Marlene will be honored in a Rosary service on January 2, 2026, at Minton-Chatwell Funeral Directors in Borger, commencing at 6:00 PM. Following this, a Mass will be celebrated in her memory at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church on January 3, 2026, at 10:00 AM.  She will be interred at Stinnett Cemetery following the service.
