Dennis Cleve O'Bryant, II

Dennis Cleve O'Bryant II, 66, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on July 31, 2026.

Dennis was born January 11, 1960, in Pampa, Texas, to Barbara and Dennis O'Bryant. After graduating from Stinnett High School in 1979, he went on to study Aviation at Southeastern Oklahoma State University, where he began building the career he had dreamed of since childhood.

From the time he was a young boy, Dennis's greatest aspiration was to fly airplanes. He soloed his first plane at just 16 years old, and later attended American Flyers in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to earn his pilot certifications. After graduation, he became the Airport Manager in Woodward, Oklahoma, before moving on to become the Airport Manager for Hutchinson County in Borger, Texas, in 1992. He served in that role for 30 years until his retirement in 2022. Throughout his career, Dennis was also a flight instructor, teaching students of all ages to fly and sharing his passion with everyone he taught. He helped organize airshows in his early years, and served as a private pilot providing air transportation for many local businesses.

In 1979, Dennis met Sharon Thomas, the love of his life, in Borger, Texas. They were married in 1981, also in Borger, and would have celebrated 45 years together on August 28, 2026. Together, Dennis and Sharon raised two children, Jennifer and Andrew.

Beyond flying, Dennis found joy in fishing, traveling, swimming, and trying new restaurants. He never tired of sharing his flying stories, plenty of them, with anyone willing to listen, and he loved every minute of it.

Dennis was predeceased by his mother, Barbara O'Bryant; his father, Dennis O'Bryant; his daughter, Janice O'Bryant; and his nephew, Ky Stevens.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon O'Bryant of Amarillo, Texas; his daughter, Jennifer O'Bryant Suhr, and her husband, Jared Suhr, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; his son, Andrew O'Bryant, and his wife, Paige O'Bryant, and their two children of Littleton, Colorado; his grandchildren, Owen and Avery O'Bryant; his sister, Gail Davis, and her husband, Tommy Davis, of Georgetown, Texas; and his beloved dog, Bella.

Dennis was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Services will be held in the Minton Memorial Chapel on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 3:00 PM.  Burial will follow in Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.  The family will receive guests from 5-7 PM on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the funeral home. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organization Dennis felt strongly about, or to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
