Clarence was born on May 9, 1932 in Emporia, Kansas to Charlie Russell and Dica Lavauda (Oldham) McDaniel. He started school in an Osage Indian community near Fairfax, OK. His family moved to Borger, Texas in the summer of 1943 where he attended Bunavista Grade School. He graduated from Borger High School in 1950, Frank Phillips College in 1952 and West Texas State University in 1955. He began scouting as a Cub Scout and progressed to the rank of Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow. After high school he served as an Explorer Boy Scout Post Advisor. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, being stationed in Germany as a Medical Specialist.
Upon returning to Borger, he was employed at the Phillips Petroleum Company Copolymer plant for the next 30 years. He retired in 1988 as the manager of Safety, Fire Protection, Environmental and Industrial departments. On June 26, 1958 he married his sweetheart, Phyllis Ann Harbin. They lived and reared their three children, Annette, Cynthia and Earl in Borger.
He was saved to live a Christian life and serve Jesus Christ on April 22, 1945 at First Baptist Church in Borger. He was a charter member of the Bunavista Baptist Church and served in many capacities within and outside the church. Clarence faithfully served as a volunteer with Bill Glass Prison Ministry for over 15 years at more than 160 weekends in prisons across America. For over 12 years he served as a Bible teacher and mentor to the Hutchinson County jail inmates.
He served on the Borger Independent School District Board of Education, Hutchinson County Commissioner’s Court, Hutchinson County Appraisal Board, Living Water Board of Directors and was a volunteer at the Biblical Wellness Center.
He was an avid and proficient outdoorsman, hunter of quail, pheasant and elk and an angler for bass, trout, walleye and salmon. He loved the great outdoors.
He was a sacrificial supporter of ministries, programs and individuals in order to give them a hand up and an opportunity to step out and press on to live a meaningful life.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Harbin) McDaniel, daughters - Annette Cooper (Mark), Cynthia Grimmer (David), son, Earl McDaniel (Venie), thirteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, two brothers, Dr. James McDaniel (Nikki) and John McDaniel (Annette), sister-in-law, Wyvonne McDaniel and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Dica McDaniel, brother, Charles McDaniel, and infant granddaughter, Abigail Celeste Cooper.
He lived his life as a Greatly Blessed, Highly Favored, Imperfect but Forgiven Child of God.
