Beatrice (Betty) Eleanor Barnett, 101, of Borger passed from this life Saturday, August 30th, 2025, in Wheeler, Texas at Parkview Assisted Living. Betty had been a resident of Parkview for 1-1/2 years.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, September 5th, 2025, at Minton Memorial Chapel with Garrett English of the Church of Christ, Wheeler officiating and Rodney Bass of Wheeler. Burial will follow in the Garden of "Hope" at Westlawn Memorial Park under the direction of Minton Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.
Betty Barnett was born May 20th, 1924, in Leominster, Massachusetts to Albert and Rachel (Harrington) Brown.
Beatrice (Betty) met Meryl while he was stationed at Fort Devens, Massachusetts and married on November 17, 1942, in Carthage, New York. After Meryl’s discharge from the Army, they moved to Borger where both Meryl and Betty worked for plants that were owned by the United States Government and leased to U.S. Rubber, and Phillips which were sold to them after WW II.
Betty spent 45 years with J.M. Huber Corp; and 3 years with Engineered Carbon, Inc. and retired from there after 48 years of service. Betty’s work ethic and determination led her to several jobs and then worked for the City of Borger. Betty was a member of the Republican Women, Borger City Council, the Mensa group, a certified secretary, and member of Borger Chamber of Commerce where she was chosen as Citizen of the Year for 2016.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Fleta Barnett-Litterell of Amarillo, Bennie Litterell of Borger, Greta Bass and husband Rodney of Wheeler, and son Gerald Barnett and wife Tisha of Amarillo; five grandchildren Craig Bass and Amanda Green, Rachel and Camden Dorris, Jonathan and Matthew Litterell, and Joshua Barnett; and three great-grandchildren Hazen Dorris, Bauer Dorris and London Dorris.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Rachel Brown, husband Meryl G. Barnett, a grandson Cole Barnett Bass, her sisters Dorothy Siren, Norma Lockwood Kelley; and her brother, Leslie Brown.
