Brenda Sue Allison Hicks Russ went to heaven Monday, July 26, 2010. Brenda was born to Dorthy Roberts Allison and R. E. Allison on February 3, 1951 in Dalhart, Texas. Both families were early pioneers to Dallam Co. and made great contributions to the development of Dalhart.
Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the First Christian Church in Panhandle with Pastor Larry Perkins officiating. Interment will be in Panhandle Cemetery under the direction of Minton - Chatwell Funeral Directors of Panhandle.
Brenda attended her early education in Dalhart until 1965 when they moved to Dumas. She was a graduate of Dumas High school in 1969 and then continued her education at West Texas State University receiving a Bachelors of Science in Secondary Education/English, followed by a Masters in Special Education.
Brenda married Durrell Hicks in 1973 and lived together in Friona, Texas for 10 years. Through the years they relocated to Sequin, Texas, Dumas, Texas and settled in Panhandle, Texas. Durrell passed away in 2001 and Brenda acquired a wonderful family when she married Charley Russ of Panhandle, Texas in 2002. She was also preceded in death by her sister - Dina Alene Allison in 1949. She is survived by her mother and step-dad, Dorthy & Robert Milbern of Amarillo, husband - Charley Russ of the home, daughter - Amanda Ritter and husband Jeremy of Lubbock, three step-daughters - Denise Durham and Kattie Muir of Panhandle, Carrie Willis of Canyon, brother - Farrell Allison of Greensburg, Kansas, and nine grandchildren.
Brenda loved her career helping special needs children as an educator and diagnostician for over 30 years. She also enjoyed reading, caring for her animals and spending time with family.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
